How disasters can be avoided

The Disasters Avoided initiative

The Disasters Avoided initiative began in September 2022. It is a joint initiative between Risk Insight Consulting and senior academic partners at UCL (London) and UMBC (Washington, DC).

The Disasters Avoided initiative includes the following:

  1. A research-informed model to avoid disasters.
  2. Examples and case studies of how disasters are being, and have been, avoided.
  3. Publications and communications that share research and case studies.

Data security and data privacy is of paramount importance. Data and documentation can be retained in-house or stored through a secure hosted solution.

The Disasters Avoided model

Find out about the Disasters Avoided model

Through research and documentation of case studies, we are connecting the dots and discovering patterns and trends which we are distilling into a model for avoiding disasters.

This model is a "work in progress". It does not cover all aspects of disaster risk reduction and management; its purpose is to highlight commonalities in the actions people are taking to avoid disasters around the world. There is no "right or wrong" single answer to how we approach the goal to avoid disasters - understanding the context of a situation is always vital.
